Stop What You Doing Martha

Luke 10:38-42

New International Version

At the Home of Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.

Ok so I know you thought I was calling you Martha, right? Nope…I just wanted you to see Martha from the Bible. You know…Mary’s sister who was always soooo BUSY!

So many times in life we get so busy with stuff, that it’s hard for us to pray, read our Word, or even get in the presence of God. You see… Jesus was in the house of Martha. She had opened her home to Him to have him as a guest. When Jesus entered in, she was too busy doing stuff in the house, that she couldn’t spend time with Him!

You know what I got from that? Martha is us. She is I. She is you. She is a depiction of so many Christians today. When we welcome Jesus into our hearts (salvation), we welcome him into our home (our temple). When we go to our literal home, we bring Jesus with us because we already welcomed Him from within. So, as we get to our literal home from a busy day at work, Jesus is there. But isn’t it funny that, just like Martha, when we get home, instead of relaxing and spending time with God, we find 101 other things to do…cooking, cleaning, homework, television, social media, talk on the phone, eating, working out, etc. Then, when it’s time for bed, we give God a few minutes of our time. We fail to realize that that is the EXACT same situation that Martha was in. She found so much stuff to do, but Mary, her sister, did what was needed to be done.

I want to encourage you today to find some focused time for God when you’re at home. Don’t get so busy that when the day is all over with, you only have crumbs to give to God. It’s time for us to go to another level in manifesting dreams and visions. It’s time to go to another level in purpose. One thing we have to remember….it’s going to take you on your face, spending some much needed time in prayer with God in order to see all of that manifest. #Selah
