Knowledge but NO Understanding

Trish M Quote:

“Don't just gain knowledge, gain understanding. #WisdomWins"

Have you ever had knowledge of something, but didn't have the full understanding of it? Have you ever reacted to something before you had a full understanding of it? Have you made a decision based on knowledge and not a full understanding?

If you answered "yes" to either of those, you didn't operate in wisdom. You operated in emotions. You operated in your own ideology. Doing that can tend to pose problems with relationships and cause certain circumstances and situations to happen. It can also get you out of God's purpose because you made a decision with no full understanding! 😬

I'll give you a few examples:

  • You heard someone say something, and you responded without getting an understanding.
  • God told you that you were called with a special gift, but you have no true understanding oh how He desires to use you in it yet.
  • A decision was made, and you got mad before you got an understanding.
  • God starts allowing a lot of changes in your life. You have knowledge but no understanding as to the "why". So... you're frustrated.

Here are a few reasons why you must make sure you have understanding to go along with knowledge:

1. Because God said to. Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Knowledge gives information. Understanding gives direction.

2.  You can misinterpret or misuse what you know.

  • Example: The Pharisees knew Scripture but lacked true understanding of Jesus’ mission. They had head knowledge, but no revelation (Matthew 23:27).

3. Without understanding, knowledge can lead to arrogance, judgment, or even destruction. Pride brings a great fall. When you have knowledge with no understanding, you tend to react. That reaction is stemmed in pride. Pride always leads to destruction if not handled QUICKLY!

4. You risk being deceived.

  • Knowledge can be partial. Without understanding, you can take half-truths and run in the wrong direction.
  • Again... remember this... Proverbs 4:7: “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

I have been that girl! I have reacted with no understanding. I have responded without getting the big picture. I have had to learn over the years that it's ok to ask people to help you understand the "why" behind what they said or did.

There are more things that I can add to this. Check out my podcast below. This is going to be good! Make sure to tune in!
