God Knows My Heart… But That’s the Problem

Mar 20, 2026

We’ve all said it before—

“God knows my heart.” But what if the very thing we use to defend ourselves… is the very thing God is trying to deal with?

Scripture doesn’t flatter the heart. It exposes it.

The Bible says the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). That means your heart can convince you that wrong is right, that compromise is okay, and that partial obedience is enough.

So yes—God knows your heart.
He knows your motives, your intentions, your hidden thoughts… the things you don’t even say out loud.

And that’s not comforting if your heart hasn’t been transformed.

We live in a culture that teaches, “Follow your heart.”
But God says, “Guard your heart.” (Proverbs 4:23)

Because everything flows from it.

Your words flow from your heart.
Your decisions flow from your heart.
Your relationships reflect your heart.
Even your worship reveals your heart.

You can lift your hands and still have a hardened heart.
You can say the right things and still have the wrong intentions.

That’s why God doesn’t just look at what you do—He examines why you do it.

Before Abraham became the father of many nations, his heart was tested through obedience.

Before David wore a crown, his heart was tested in caves.
Before Joseph ruled in Egypt, his heart was tested in betrayal and prison.

Because God doesn’t promote based on appearance—
He promotes based on heart posture.

And here’s the truth:
God isn’t impressed with a good image if the heart is unhealthy.

But here’s the hope…

God doesn’t just expose the heart—He transforms it.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God…” (Psalm 51:10)

He can remove the bitterness.
He can heal the wounds.
He can break the pride.
He can purify your motives.

He doesn’t want perfection—He wants surrender.

So instead of saying, “God knows my heart” as an excuse…
Start saying it as an invitation:

“God, since You know my heart… search it.
Fix it.
Clean it.
Transform it.”

Because real relationship isn’t about looking right on the outside—
It’s about being right on the inside.
